As MORCA continues the journey toward improved bike access in Monterey County, the development of more progressive MTB trails and the Laguna Seca Bike Park, we need to grow our volunteer network. Historically, MORCA has relied on a relatively small, core group of volunteers to carry out our work on the trails, at city and county meetings, and at the proverbial desk.
We are grateful to our members and all those who have volunteered, no matter how seldom or frequently. Just a few hours of your time helps us make meaningful progress toward our goals.
But the truth is, if we want to see our collective ambitions through – more kids on bikes, more access, trails & park spaces designed and built for MTB, more bike-focused events that celebrate and build our Monterey County MTB community, and better representation at city and county meetings so we can grow communitywide support for MTB – we need more helping hands to get it done.
MORCA’s membership is growing slowly and steadily, but ironically, it isn’t a flood of new funding or new members that will take our organization to the next level – it is more mountain bikers like you volunteering their time.
One of our top priorities is identifying a Lead Volunteer for the following focus areas:
Community Relations & Advocacy
Event Planning & Staffing
Membership/Fundraising & Sponsorships
Social Media & Communications
Trail Work
We’re working on Standard Operating Procedures for each of these areas so that willing volunteers can easily jump in and make a difference where we really need it. We’ve also made it possible for anyone to participate in MORCA Monthly Board Meetings via audio, so you can learn more about what we’re working on, consider joining the conversation, and see where you might fit in.
“If you want to go fast, go alone.
If you want to go far, go together.”
– African Proverb
Everyone at MORCA wants to see Monterey County mountain biking go as far as it can, and to benefit as many members of our greater community as it possibly can. We want to continue stewarding the land on which we ride and to grow the positive impacts that mountain biking delivers to our community.
There are no prerequisites for getting involved – just the desire to support these ambitions. All volunteers get entered into quarterly raffles and we’re working on other perks for you, too. If you’d like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, follow us on social, check out our website, or send us a message via the contact form at morcamtb.org/contact/.
