Huge and heartfelt thanks go out to all who helped make MORCA’s Take a Kid Mountain Bike Day possible – it was hands down the biggest and best to date!
Extra special thanks to Montage Health for its generous sponsorship, to Bobcat Bicycles for providing a brand-new bike to raffle, and to all the other local bike shops, sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers for showing up and contributing to a best-ever event.
As usual, excited kids started rolling in to ride the obstacle courses before the event even started. If you build it, they will come! And come they did… we had over 100 kids registered which means even more showed up to ride; and with friends and family in tow throughout the day, hundreds of people got to experience the magic combination of kids and bikes.
MORCA’s commitment to get more kids on bikes was in full effect, with extra bikes and helmets available for kids who did not have their own, thanks to our partners at the Community Bike Collective.
This year, the Monterey County Parks team including Chief of Parks Bryan Flores, as well as County Supervisor Wendy Root Askew both had booths at the event. Their presence spoke volumes to the partnerships MORCA is fostering, to the potential MTB represents for our community, and to the positive impacts MTB and MORCA are already delivering for our community – all aboard the MTB train! … woot-woot!!!
Other special guests included a solid turnout from the Salinas Cowboys and Monterey Bay Lightfighters high school mountain bike teams. These teenagers are an inspiration – always having a blast, willing to share the camaraderie and knowledge with other kids, and leading the way for the next generation of stewards, advocates, riders, and racers.
Why do kids enjoy mountain biking so much?! Hear what they have to say…
