MORCA Partners with CAMTB to Highlight MTB Advocacy at Sea Otter Classic

Monterey County cyclists are so fortunate to have a world-renowned cycling event like the Sea Otter Classic (SOC) take place in our own backyard. Not only is this a fun event for all riders and ability levels, it also brings literally the entire bike industry to town every April. And most relevant to MORCA – SOC has a history of showcasing mountain bike advocacy and giving event attendees and sponsors a chance to learn more or lean in by providing needed support for advocacy. In addition to playing an integral role in the year-round upkeep of trails used by SOC, part of MORCA’s legacy at Sea Otter involves providing much needed volunteers for the event. In return, event organizers have generously provided our organization with booth space. This year, thanks to some helpful accommodation from SOC, we were able to invite our comrades at the California Mountain Bike Association (CAMTB) to be our neighbors. MORCA and CAMTB have begun to work more closely in recent months/years. Executive Director Michael Anzalone has advised MORCA Board Members on a number of topics and initiatives such as California State Parks Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Department’s initiative to develop mountainbike buffer trails between OHMVR areas and park boundaries. In their relatively short existence, CAMTB has become a powerful force for California mountain bikers and advocacy groups.  We invite MORCA members to check out some of the amazing work CAMTB is doing in other parts of the state, and to stop by our neighboring booths at SOC April 18-21.
