MORCA Secures Permit for Fort Ord Trailhead Restrooms – Please Support Fundraising!

One for the outreach, two for the permit, three to raise funds, and four to go! MORCA recently secured a three-year permit from Monterey County to place porta-potties at 8th Avenue and Gigling Road. As the most popular trailhead on the west side of Fort Ord, the dirt lot and adjacent paved parking area attract upwards of 100 vehicles on a given weekend. Thanks to persistent efforts by MORCA, as well as support from County Supervisor Wendy Root Askew, the county agreed to this long-sought permit.

Contrary to the most popular trailhead on the east side of the Monument – where Guidotti Road starts along Highway 68 – the Gigling Road parking area has never had designated toilets. And as many trail users have experienced over the years, it shows… and not in a good way! With the permit secured, MORCA and the County of Monterey are seeking the remaining funds to pay for annual upkeep of the much needed restroom facilities.

Once funded, these toilets will benefit mountain bikers, road and gravel riders, hikers, runners, equestrians and more. Designated restrooms will also reduce negative impacts on the surrounding nature.

MORCA invites members and our greater community of partners and volunteers, as well as all the different types of trail users who start their adventures at 8th and Gigling to consider donating and helping spread the word about fundraising. Help us reach our year-end goal of $15,000 – the click here to donate.
