Fundraising for maintenance of the porta potties at the 8th & Gigling trailhead got off to a strong start thanks to being part of the 2024 MC Gives campaign – and thanks to your contributions!!!

In 2024, contributors to MC Gives netted a whopping $13,517 and we received an additional $2,706 the same year through donations for this project on morcamtb.org. An additional $961 has come in so far in 2025, bringing the grand total to $17,184. With annual maintenance fees nearly $7,000/month, we are inching closer to our preliminary $19,000 goal! And… any extra funds donated beyond maintenance costs will go toward permanent restroom facilities.

The ultimate goal for this busy trailhead is a permanent restroom building with pit toilets, just like we have at the Creekside Terrace Trailhead along Highway 68 and at the newly constructed restrooms at Fort Ord Day Camp Cycling Area near the East Garrison neighborhood. The Memorandum of Understanding signed with Monterey County Parks outlines the following: if MORCA and trailhead supporters can cover costs to install and maintain temporary restroom facilities for three years, then the county will make good on building a proper restroom facility.

We are excited about the positive progress on this project to date. It is another great example of MORCA’s work benefiting all trail users, but unique to this project has been the opportunity for all trail users to contribute. We know that members of the equestrian, hiking, and trail running communities have all chipped in. BIG THANKS to all donors – team work makes the dream work!
