Another Sea Otter Classic is in the books and once again, MORCA members, volunteers, and our greater Monterey MTB community stepped up by volunteering and bringing the stoke! With the goal of raising awareness about MORCA’s work, our presence at the event was stronger than ever and we got a big boost from the cover story in Monterey County Weekly.
This year, MORCA leveled up our presence by staffing a tent next to our bike rodeo setup and the pump track, in addition to our normal spot on the grass inside the expo. This helped attendees connect the dots between MORCA and the various roles we play at the event and provided another touch point for friendly conversation and outreach. The added effort required more volunteers but as usual, our MTB community stepped up to the challenge. Thank you!!!
We want to extend some extra gratitude to a few MORCA OGs (Original guys/gals) and members-at-large for their efforts behind the scenes. Once again, former MORCA President and OG Mike McGirr got started way before the rest of us, seamlessly managing all the event logistics and orchestrating everything onsite during event week.
Another long-timer and current Board Member Brian Tomasini, creator and carpenter behind the original MORCA kids’ obstacle course aka bike rodeo, once again played a pivotal role dialing things in for the kiddos. With a personality as colorful as the course, Brian’s dedication to MORCA and to our beloved obstacle course is invaluable at Sea Otter and beyond.
Last but not least, member-at-large and hammer-man Ken Chrisman responded to POC’s request for a worthy co-host and local guide to help shepherd the POC group gravel ride with icon Amity Rockwell at Sea Otter. Always a willing and able ambassador for MORCA, Ken’s contributions to MORCA have helped us level up when it really counts.
And of course, we have to thank the Life Time Sea Otter Classic team for generously supporting MORCA’s cause at the event, promoting our work through social media, and just generally having our back. We’re excited to do even more together next year!
Only 352 days until next year – let’s keep the magic going! Thanks for all you do, everyone!
