Voice Your Support for the Bicycling on Long-Distance Trails (BOLT) Act

If anything good came out of the pandemic, it has been a renewed motivation by local government, land management agencies, and outdoor recreation advocacy groups like MORCA to grow and improve upon outdoor recreation opportunities. After all, outdoor recreation helped many of us get through the past few years.

From working to make the nation’s outdoors community and resources more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to making more federal, state, and regional funding available to improve existing trails and plan or build new ones, the potential for growing outdoor recreation opportunities for all is greater than ever.

This recreation revolution began in part during 2020 when the Great Outdoors Act was signed into law, and just last December the House Committee on Natural Resources introduced the bipartisan EXPLORE Act. Both pieces of legislation have the potential to support a bill that is specific to mountain biking, the Biking On Long-Distance Trails (BOLT) Act. The BOLT Act has been rolling through the hallways of the House and Senate since 2021 and it needs our help to clear the last hurdle.

MORCA invites members to learn more, consider sharing this information with your own network and above all, to voice your support for the BOLT Act by sending a letter to your senator(s). Thanks to our friends at IMBA, there’s a simple online form you can fill out, send, and make your voice heard in five minutes or less.

We are grateful to IMBA, the Outdoor Alliance, countless other advocacy groups, our conservation and outdoors-minded elected officials, and our very own members for doing their part to advance these important initiatives!
